I meet a lot of people who want to be an entrepreneur, but don’t really know if they have what it takes to be a good one.
See, the first thing you have to understand about being an entrepreneur is that you aren’t really working for yourself. You are working for the clients or customers that you want to buy your product or service. You’ll have to build a business from the ground up all the while understanding that it’s not what you like but what draws in the consumer. Sure, the sacrifices will be huge…but so are the rewards.
Lots of people are attracted to it. Lots of people give it a try but only true entrepreneurs will endure it.
So if you are thinking you might be an entrepreneur at heart, these seven signs should help you out:
1- Fired from a job?
Are you a man or woman desperate to contribute to a company only to be frustrated and ignored. You know you could help the company become bigger and better. You have lots and lots of ideas on how to do that and when you try to share…
It just seems nobody cares.
More than likely you’ll figure out that you should probably quit before you do get fired.
2- Ideas won’t stop coming
Do you wake up in the middle of the night trying to find your phone so you can text yourself because you just thought of the perfect idea to fix a problem that had you stumped for days?
Are you always writing your ideas on anything you can find to write on including on the back of napkins? Do your friends become tired of hearing the next great idea you came up with because you are always overwhelming them with your ideas? If so, then you are probably an entrepreneur.
3- Adventure is clearly in your blood!
If you’re an entrepreneur, you are probably a risk-taker. You’re not really interested in the same old thing and you get bored really easy.
You may or may not want to climb Mt Everest but you sure want to climb up the ladder of success.
You are empowered by the tension of the deadlines, the traveling and the busy office. In fact, you are truly energized by all of this.
If that describes you, then you are probably an entrepreneur.
4- You are on the right side of crazy
Think about this for a moment…entrepreneurs come up with crazy ideas. So…Entrepreneurs are a little crazy.
They are the ones looking at the status quo and saying: “This is not right. We can do it better. WAY better”
They’re solutions may seem a little silly to others, but they don’t care. They’re just crazy enough to think that they could pull it off and would if given the chance.
We are very fortunate to live in a country that encourages innovation, and people can still think your idea is dumb. You have to be a little crazy to forge ahead in spite of all the negativity.
5 - You love making money
Entrepreneurs just like making money even though most aren’t greedy. You could say they are motivated by the challenge of making money.
Most entrepreneurs I know had this desire to own their own business at a very young age. I know I did. I always wanted to be a hair dresser and own my own hairdressing shop.
If you are one, you tend to look at things differently from others. You rend to look at it with an eye for profit. You have a good with numbers and you can smell a good investment a mile away. People also probably come to you for financial or investment advice.
6 - You create an entrepreneur friendly environment
Birds of a feather flock together so Entrepreneurs are drawn to other like a moth to a bug light. They enjoy being with like minded people.
Being in the right place with the right people is the quickest way to turn your idea into a business.
If you live in an entrepreneur-friendly city, you are bound to run into investors, influencers and media people when you go out for coffee after work.
You have to be in the center of the hub-bub. Otherwise you won’t be included in many things.
7- Nothing else satisfies you
You know that you have the heart of an entrepreneur when you’ve heard all the warnings about this lifestyle and still want to do it.
What kind of warnings am I talking about? Well, here are a few:
If you really want to become an entrepreneur it deserves some serious attention and soul searching. There are a lot of sacrifices to be made. And if you choose this lifestyle and you need to know if you have the right personality to deal with it all.
However, I really don’t think people choose to be an entrepreneur. I actually believe that its a calling from God. I think you are gifted with it. True entrepreneurs will find their way into it.
Conclusion
An Entrepreneur is so much more than working for yourself. A true Entrepreneur works to build a profitable, sustainable business to hand down as an inheritance or so that another person or company eventually wants to buy it.
Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, but if it’s for you, you’ll know it because it will burn so deep inside you that you can’t ignore it.
